Royal Mail’s announcement this week that it will be reducing the cost of sending parcels over the festive period, is the latest initiative in a package of measures to secure its share of the highly competitive parcel delivery market – responding to the likes of on-line retail giants such as Amazon.
Recently, it was also announced that selected Royal Mail sorting offices would be open at weekends for parcel collections as well as deliveries in a number of areas – postcodes mainly within the M25 for a trial period. Early feedback indicates that this has been welcomed by customers, who with increasingly busy lives appreciate the flexibility of being able to collect and receive parcels on a Sunday.
This latest offer which runs from October 20th – January 18th, will enable customers to send a ‘small parcel’ weighing up to 2kg for £2.80. In real terms this has doubled the weight able to be sent for the price – which would have previously cost £8. A saving of £5.20 will be good news for families as they try to make their Christmas pound stretch further.
