When Panasonic opened their Northampton distribution centre to supply the UK and Ireland, the product range and profiles of the individual products was significantly different to what it is now. As a consequence of these changes, the measures in place to monitor warehouse efficiency had become less appropriate and required the use of process mapping.
Working with The Logistics Business, process maps and a material flow diagrams were produced, highlighting what should be measured. Detailed analysis identified the key drivers, and with data on resources and their costs, a schedule of KPIs was agreed. These allow Panasonic to monitor performance down to individual level, to plan more accurately, and to assess the impact of business changes on the DC activity.
