WRAP (Waste & Resource Action Programme)

WRAP is a Client of The Logistics Business - Leading logistics consultants UKWRAP (Waste & Resource Action Programme), in partnership with leading construction and logistics organisations in the UK, has developed and piloted the Material Logistics Plan (MLP). An MLP helps in the proactive management of material types and quantities to be used in construction. The MLP covers the management of materials from design to construction (including supply routes, handling, storage, security, use and reuse, recycling and disposal) through to project demobilisation and completion. Implementation of an MLP has a positive impact on the total life cycle of a construction project, from conception through design and construction, to demobilisation and completion. An MLP also complements the actions construction projects are required to take as part of their Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP).

The Logistics Business was one of the participating companies in the project to develop the MLP, and a Director from The Logistics Business chaired the Project Advisory Group. This Group was made up from almost 20 major construction companies and interested parties, including representatives from Bovis Lend Lease, Skanska, Alfred McAlpine, Transport for London and Wolseley.

Following the launch of the MLP Good Practice Guidance document, The Logistics Business was appointed by WRAP to promote the benefits of using MLPs.  As part of this work we were able to encourage the use of MLPs on 12 major construction projects in England and Scotland, ranging in value from £0.6 million to £16 billion. Several of these projects will be developed as exemplars in due course, and following a period of monitoring and development the results of the MLP implementations will be published as Case Studies.
