THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS builds best practice
Construction Best Practice has commissioned THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS to write an “Introduction to Logistics for Construction”, as part of its series of publications designed to support the spread of best practices throughout the sector. It follows from the publication of Accelerating Change, the follow up to the ground-breaking “Rethinking Construction”. Both documents were produced by The Strategic Forum for Construction which, until recently, was chaired by Sir John Egan.
The Guide will describe why logistics is important, the benefits of managing materials flows, the need to manage time and service as well as cost, the role of process management, measurement, performance indicators and benchmarking. Because it is designed to encourage a focus on logistics it will include a series of action areas and how to get started. The emphasis is that logistics management is an enabler to the construction process and should be seen as an integral part of the overall plan.
THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS is a contributor to The Integrated Supply Teams Working Group of the Strategic Forum. The Company has a growing reputation within the construction sector for its ability to introduce successful practices from other sectors to companies who have realised the benefits that effective logistics management can bring.
