Technicolor’s clients include the BBC, Disney and Paramount, for whom they distribute Hollywood blockbusters to retail outlets. Recognising that their existing warehouse would be operating beyond capacity, Technicolor decided to employ The Logistics Business.
Careful analysis, designs were drawn up to expand the capacity of the existing warehouse facility. The solution required a mezzanine floor, to be installed while the busy warehouse was still operating, plus new flow and pallet racking, fork lift trucks and conveyors.
Moving materials vertically is harder than horizontally, so The Logistics Business designed operations which minimise the need for movement between levels. The solution includes pallet gates so that existing fork trucks can be used to move goods up to mezzanine level. To move cartons from the mezzanine based packing department to ground floor despatch, a simple spiral chute is used.
The project has been delivered on time and within budget. The business benefits include being able to service ever growing client requirements with additional throughput capacity and performance. The new operations deliver a 30% increase in volume requirements while providing smoother warehouse operations.
