Fox’s Biscuits

Over the years Fox’s Biscuits had found more and more need for outside storage, especially during peak periods. Eventually this reached the point where outside storage was required for almost every week of the year. THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS was asked to review the company’s requirements and consider what needed to be done to extend and develop the existing warehouse facilities in order to minimise the need for outside storage.

A detailed analysis of the business was carried out, looking at manufacturing output and storage and throughput requirements for around 250 stock keeping units. The analysis including predictions of requirements for up to five years ahead and showed a need for almost 13,000 pallets storage capacity, compared with the 6,000 currently available. The analysis also showed considerable increase in the throughput which was currently running at almost 200,000 pallets per year. Various options were considered to make best use of the existing building and this was then followed with plans for building extensions to meet the full requirements.

Layouts for storage and handling systems were prepared together with details of operating methods and procedures. The work also included work to look at the integration of the warehouse management IT with the company’s SAP system.
