Experience in In-Bound Logistics

No business can completely separate its in-bound and out-bound activities, but the two have to be treated in different ways according to the dynamics of the business and the processes which take place between them. Both in-bound and out-bound have ultimately to respond to customer demands but the dynamics can be very different. In-bound dynamics are influenced particularly by supplier arrangements upstream, by process demands downstream and by materials planning. Lack of control of in-bound processes can lead on the one hand to high storage, handling costs and manufacturing costs and on the other hand to poor end customer service. In many cases the result is both of these. In a manufacturing operation, in-bound logistics should form an integral part of the production plan. THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS has experience of all aspects of the supply chain and is firmly of the view that none of the activities can be treated totally in isolation.
