As a result of many research projects including ‘The Stern Review’, it is accepted by the UK Government that climate change is happening and will have far reaching effects on our country, socially and economically.  This in turn will affect all sectors of business in the economic environment in which they operate and in their operating methods.

Whilst the greatest cause of greenhouse gas emissions from energy use in Europe and the World is power generation, joint second is industry along with transport.  This includes manufacturing plants, warehouses and distribution centres and the movement of goods throughout the supply chain.  The UK government has launched a number of initiatives and schemes to address these issues and promote the development of greener supply chains.

THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS has undertaken a body of work to understand the implications of climate change on the supply chain and review the objectives and implementation of the government initiatives.  This work is now being used extensively for advice on the implement of projects for a wide range of companies to improve the carbon footprint of their supply chain, warehousing and transport operations.  This includes work in the following areas: -

  • The structure and operation of the supply chain to reduce environmental impact;
  • The environmental effect of trends in manufacturing and retail;
  • Improving environmental impact through different transport modes, fuels and increases in efficiency;
  • The use of transport vehicle technologies to reduce carbon emissions.

THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS is also undertaking research and advisory work on behalf of the government to promote the development of environmentally friendly supply chains and transport.
