Computacenter
This is the UK’s largest supplier of personal computer systems and services with a turnover exceeding £2 billion. The Company had decided that it needed to expand its distribution facilities and asked THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS to determine requirements and provide them with a new facility. A detailed analysis of the Company’s projected business was carried out and a number of options put forward for a new facility. An option was agreed with the Client (which included a high level of warehouse automation) and work was then undertaken to complete the detailed design of the warehouse and facilities.
In addition to the picking and shipping operation we were also involved in the development of solutions for Computacenter’s configuration facility where PCs are tailored to customer needs prior to despatch. We worked closely with consulting engineers and architects to take into account all aspects of the building design, storage facilities, mechanical handling equipment and loading/unloading facilities. We then prepared invitations to tender and dealt with the procurement of much of the infrastructure for the green field site development. Various related design projects have also been carried out on peripheral facilities. Work continued with the provision of project management support to the Client during the construction phase.
More recently we have been supporting the Client in helping to enhance the operation and to support the ongoing development of the business.
