Case Study: 51 Lime Street - The Willis Building
The Willis Building at 51 Lime Street in the City of London is a typical example of construction site environments in city centres. Surrounded by buildings on one side and roads on the other 3 the only space British Land had available was the site itself, which was constantly changing, and a small area of roadside parking, strictly monitored by GLA.
As this image shows the available space for offices and deliveries was extremley tight. Wilson James, the Logistics Contractors opted to use Zone Manager to control deliveries. Their installation consisted of a small network with 2 data entry systems and 2 large plasma display systems. The display systems were located in 2 of the project offices giving the project team a clear view of what was due over the next week.
Zone Manager ensured that double-booking of the 2 delivery points (visible in the picture) was not possible. By clearly displaying the expected deliveries on the large screens and with weekly reports they ensured that Trade Contractors had no excuses for not being aware of when, and what, they should be delivering. This enabled a strict regime of turning away unplanned deliveries, vital as they had no holding area. The GLA’s cameras were constantly monitoring the traffic situation and were swift to impose sanctions if there was any obstruction.
The flexibility of the software allowed for changes to delivery points to be made as the site progressed.
