Argos Taps into Logistics Expertise for Major Supply Chain Revamp

Argos Barton

With the continual pressure to improve operations and reduce costs, Argos has chosen to re-engineer their supply chain for directly imported products and smaller items. A key part of the resulting solution, a highly automated distribution centre in the Midlands due for completion in 2003, will replenish regional distribution centres and provide cross dock - ready deliveries to support stores around the UK and in the Republic of Ireland.

For almost two years now Argos has been supported by THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS in this major project. Initially work centred on the analysis of requirements, including use of the i-flow model developed by THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS. This looked in detail at product flows and likely changes in the future. The early work resulted in the specification for a new Central Distribution Centre and the role of THE LOGISTICS BUSINESS consultants now extends to managing the multi-million pound material handling equipment contracts and detailed implementation.
